Geotechnical Services

Site-specific soil data delivered fast—so your foundation is designed for what's actually in the ground, not regional averages.

Geotechnical engineering services overview

Generic foundation designs based on assumed soil conditions are one of the leading causes of foundation problems in Central Texas. Our cost-effective geotechnical services give our engineers—and yours—the actual soil data needed to design foundations that perform over the long term. We keep our turnaround times short so geotechnical work never holds up your project schedule.

Geotechnical Site Evaluations

Our engineers visit your site to assess soil and subsurface conditions firsthand. We document existing conditions, identify potential problem areas—expansive clay, shallow rock, variable fill, high water tables—and collect the data needed to produce a meaningful foundation recommendation. Current lead time for site visits: 2–3 days.

Soil Borings & Lab Testing

Where subsurface data is needed, we coordinate soil borings and laboratory testing to characterize the soil profile at your site. Test results inform bearing capacity calculations, swell potential assessments, and the foundation type and depth recommendations included in our reports. This data-driven approach eliminates the guesswork that leads to over-engineered—and over-priced—foundation designs.

Foundation Recommendation Reports

Our geotechnical reports provide clear, actionable foundation recommendations—slab-on-grade, post-tension, pier and beam, or drilled pier—based on the actual conditions at your site. Reports include soil descriptions, test data, bearing capacity values, and specific design parameters our structural engineers use to produce your foundation plans. The result: a foundation designed for your lot, not the neighborhood average.

Lot & Home Purchase Feasibility Studies

Buying a lot or an existing home? Before you close, it's worth knowing what you're getting into structurally and geotechnically. We evaluate the property for soil conditions, drainage issues, foundation performance, structural concerns, and development constraints—giving buyers, real estate agents, and builders the information needed to make confident decisions during the option period.

Why Geotechnical Matters

Cheap upfront engineering fees don't equal cheap final costs. Skipping a geotechnical evaluation often leads to over-engineered foundations that cost thousands more than necessary—or under-engineered ones that fail. At Cen Tex Engineering, our owner spent a decade as a custom builder before moving into engineering, and he's seen both outcomes firsthand. Our geotechnical services exist to make sure neither happens on your project.
